Whether it’s your home or a space in your office, decorating your interiors can often become a painstaking job. But it doesn’t have to be. All you need is to follow a few tips to ensure that your new decor is appealing and sustainable and doesn’t take a toll on your wallet.

Decorate with Things You Already Have
Instead of buying new things, try rearranging what you already have to create a different ambiance. Instead of going out and buying candles or hanging new art on the wall, simply reposition some of the decorative items you currently own in a different place – for example, turning an old chair into a reading corner where you can sit and read for hours.

    Repurpose, Reuse, Recycle, and Upcycle
Assess the things you own differently. An old trash can might become a new planter. That dresser that is falling apart can be dismantled, and you can reuse the wood in various ways, such as attaching its drawer to the wall as cabinets to display some of your collections.

Use Paint to Make Big Changes
Painting your home’s interior is a relatively inexpensive way to modify the environment in which you live. Luckily, you can buy no-Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) paints relatively inexpensively today from your local home store. Using one of the lighter colors from a throw pillow or blanket as the base color for a cool feature wall is a fantastic way to take advantage of the unusual, whimsical pattern potentials lurking inside an ordinary piece of fabric.

    Rearrange Your Furniture
You can redecorate your house without spending a single dime by simply rearranging the furniture in each room. A fresh perspective on how an area is arranged can give you a brand new and revitalized look, even if all you did was move a chair from one side of the room to another.

While it’s true that you can change the location of your furnishings, think about the benefits of swapping out and repurposing items in a different capacity. For example, while you may want to add a large fancy end table by the sofa in your drawing room, how will this impact the look you’re trying to achieve?

    Make Small Changes
Tiny changes can drastically help improve a home’s interior design. For example, removing clutter, improving the living area by putting an end to disorganization issues, or maybe rearranging it a little bit and making use of clear containers to store small items (which makes tidying up in between visitors less of a chore) can really make your house come to life. These small changes that you can make may seem like something that does not matter at first glance, but they will all combine for something very nice!

Think about Wellbeing, Not Just Aesthetics
Make use of both comfort and convenience as you decorate. For example, if you once used artificial plants and now realize they are just dust collectors, remove them to open up space and gradually substitute them with live plants that aid air quality and look attractive.

Go with Classic Over Trendy Items
Like clothing fashions, decorating trends come and go about two to four years. Whatever you choose at any given moment will be out of your style eventually. Instead, grab classic items that will never go archaic, like a solid wood basic dresser or a less gaudy wardrobe that could have been repainted or retooled from back in the ’80s.

    Only Select Sustainable Materials
Choosing sustainable materials will make your decor choices durable and long-lasting. Not to mention that you are helping the environment.

    Host a Fun Swap Party
An enjoyable way to hunt for new decorative items is to host a swap party. Everyone can bring any decorative items (either a representation of it or the real piece) and then let everyone choose from the thing pile.

Making your house beautiful and comfortable is essential when making your house into a home. This is actually achievable to you as long as you keep in mind you’re overall decorating goal.
